The Harbor Church of Lomita and other churches belonging to Torrance Outreach United for Community Health (TOUCH), along with its medical partner Medical Mission Adventures (MMA), regularly serve South Bay neighbors in need with free medical, dental and optical care.
Harbor Church's Randy Wang said, "TOUCH and MMA have high hopes our Dec. 7 fundraiser will raise $15,000 to purchase a mobile dental unit for MMA and to continue other criticalhealth services at clinics held at Harbor and other churches.
"We are inviting members from all of our partner churches and their friends, as well as those interested in our ministry to attend our luncheon."
The luncheon and silent auction/raffle begins at noon at the Carson Community Center, Hall C, Three Civic Center, Carson, CA 90745. Guests can visit the display of MMA's Mobile Medical Clinic and its Optometry Services Van beginning at 11 a.m.
According to Louie Rosado, medical director of Medical Mission Adventures, "Our patients consistently make dental care their most requested service. Recent studies have proved serious medical complications, including heart disease, can result from lack of dental care.
"Our solution is to acquire a 24-foot trailer and install four dental stations complete with the necessary equipment. Our dental trailer could open within minutes upon arrival at the local clinic site, increasing significantly the number of patients we could treat."
Volunteer medical, dental and optometric professionals, along with South Bay church volunteers served 500 patients during its last seven clinics. The clinics started in September 2012.
Rosado and Wang said, "Churches tell us their members enjoy volunteering at the clinics. It is an excellent opportunity to share the Gospel and demonstrate to neighbors that Christians care about them."
Tickets are $45 each and tables of eight are available for $315. RVSP by 11/26/13. MMA GETS NEW PORTABLE X-RAY MACHINE FOR DENTAL!
MMA recently received a Nomad portable x-ray machine to replace the old and difficult to use x-ray that we had been using. Complete with its own carrying case, the Nomad links to a laptop and allows the dentists to see the x-ray images within seconds.
The old x-ray machine took three to four men to get it out of the mobile clinic and two of its three wheels were broken. We are looking forward to using this new machine and thank all of you who have donated to MMA for this important piece of equipment.
MMA WELCOMES NEWEST BOARD MEMBER, FERNANDO QUEZADA
MMA is very excited to add the talents and dedication of Physician Assistant Fernando Quezada to the Medical Mission Adventures Board of Directors.
Fernando has been apart of practically every clinic MMA has held in the Southern California region since we began using the mobile clinic. He has proven his dedication to our organization and will add valuable insight and direction to the medical aspects of our services.
Fernando graduated from the USC Physician Assistant school in 2001, and has worked in Downey and Pasadena. He is in charge of ording medical supplies and helps coordinate medical aspects of our clinics.
MMA was founded by Louie Rosado, who has been traveling extensively since 1972 scouting and preparing, setting up centers all around the world.
In the year 2000 we began providing free medical clinics in public parks joining efforts with local hospitals and schools. The success of these clinics was tremendous, providing as many as one thousand individuals with medical care, food, back to school supplies and referrals from the multitude of agencies available through the local cities. Since then, we have been doing the same all over the world and have operated medical clinics in such places as Cambodia, Armenia, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, and Cuba.
Louie has been a licensed respiratory therapist since 1986 and is currently employed at Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, California.
Through his dedicated service and organizational skills, Louie has enabled MMA to make the trips safe and enjoyable for our participants as well as successfully providing the much needed medical care to those we serve!
Our Mission is to provide free medical, dental and optical care to the hurting and the needy and to mobilize medical teams whenever a disaster occurs anywhere in the world and to train other organizations to do the same.
MMA was created out of a heart of compassion for the hurting, the helpless and the needy locally and around the world and continues today with that same belief to bring disaster relief to those in need.
